From the very first sentence I couldn't help but be roped into Mrs. Dalloway. I first read it for a class in college, and this novel started a long appreciation for Woolf and her work. Mrs. Dalloway is, perhaps, best enjoyed when read aloud with your best British accent. From the very first sentence I couldn't help but be roped into Mrs. Dalloway. Not my favorite of Woolf's work, but undeniably important as a literary text. Worth reading if you're a fan of Woolf, but this novel is not for the faint of heart or lover of traditional narratives.

Definitely worth a read for anyone who watches Netflix's Queer Eye. I'd recommend the audiobook so you can hear Tan's sassy style of storytelling. The writing itself isn't particularly impressive, it's valuable to hear Tan's stories of enduring racism and homophobia throughout his life.Definitely worth a read for anyone who watches Netflix's Queer Eye. Rarely have I ever enjoyed such a bleak story laden with self-destruction and blackly humorous moments. I loved it.

One of my favorites from Hicok. Few modern poets are masters of dark humor in such an elegant fashion. Hicok blends humor and melancholy so perfectly, in that he nearly captures the emotional layers of loneliness perfectly.

Sax rose to new heights with this collection. Deeply moving in its exploration of sexuality and personal relationships.

A great retelling of the Three Little Pigs tale. This story holds up with age, as there are lots of things I missed as a child that I caught as an adult. A great read!

One of my favorite indie novels from the past few years. A beautifully told coming of age story that deals with substance abuse, sexual exploration, and negligent parents. All of this goes to say it isn't exactly lighthearted, but the journey is heartfelt, raw, and vulnerable in a way that feels truly authentic. One of my favorite indie novels from the past few years. Interested read in which the story is told through interview segments. I found myself engaged, and the gaps in narrative were enticing, not frustrating.

A classic tale of teen angst from an unlikable character - what's not to love? The main character isn't meant to be a likable hero, but many could relate to his specific brand of rudeness and lack of tact when trapped in the woes of teenhood.

Had I read Harry Potter as a kid I would have certainly been enthralled with it. Unfortunately, reading it for the first time as an adult left me feeling like I missed the ideal years for reading it. Surprisingly lyrical and elegant, I really enjoyed the stories in this collection, particularly about the mother who yearned to return to her homeland and her daughter. The exploration of how one ties oneself to a place or location and makes that 'home' an integral part of their identity is a fascinating concept seldom discussed with such tact and melancholy. A wonderfully touching read about family and aging. It's brevity is its strongest asset, in that it doesn't dwell on the gravity of aging and decay, but instead discusses it, mulls it over, and walks ahead steadily into the unknown.
