I am a quilter so little things that use up fabric scraps are always of interest. I think of the items showcased as "Japanese style", small little bags and other gifts that are made by hand. The whole point of hand sewing is the calmness that comes from handwork because all of these small pieces would be far too fiddly to sew by machine. It is part of the Japanese culture that gifts made by hand, which takes valuable personal time, have more meaning than purchased gifts. It's worth a look.
