"In a thrilling Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman fights to free herself from the grip of the vampire trying to possess her... In a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city--when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire. Now, it's his voice that haunts her...that calls to her in the dark...that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: She must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm... For her beauty is irresistible to the vampires, her psychic ability like a drug. Whipped into a frenzy, they'll never stop coming for her. And only the taste of one Carpathian warrior--the rush of his blood--can save her..."--

4.5 STARS - I usually adore the Dark series but as in Dark Carousel a great deal of the story is around the "splinters" put in people and yet while they keep questioning how to get it out or destroy it they never reference back to the carousel. It's very disappointing when such a simple thing can upset the storyline. Another thing Ms Feehan usually writes courageous and confident female leads and Emmaline appears anything but. Keep reading and while not confident that woman is certainly courageous! Dragomir is both more gentle than the usual Carpathian mate and then wee see that stern side of his personality emerge when it concers her safety. All in all I liked the book.

Another very good book from Christine Feehan I love the Carpathian Novels and really enjoyed this book as well. When Dragomir thought that he was never going to meet his life mate and accepted that fact, he couldn't believe his luck when he heard Emeline's voice and realized that she was his life mate. But the evil master vampire, Vadim wanted her for himself because of her special abilities. I really like the way good wins over evil in these books. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Greatly enjoyed this novel set in San Diego. A" good series with-in a series" novel that started with the novella Dark crimes which can be found in Edge of Darkness. Also, it might be good to read Dark Ghost, Dark Promises, and Dark Carousel, to get the earlier parts of the story. Dark Sentinel --which will be out Sept. 2018-- will most likely continue the story, and still be set in the US.

i didn't feel this particular story measured up to this authors abilities. The female lifemate was weak and boring. While I enjoy the steamy parts of the Carpathian sagas, this one felt like Ms. Feehan was on a deadline and needed to roll out another book and her heart wasn't in it. Very disappointed.
