The 52 labs in Kitchen Science Lab for Kids require no specialized equipment or dangerous chemicals. Instead they use materials most of us keep in our pantries--milk, aluminum foil, laundry detergent--to introduce fundamental principles of physics, chemistry, and biology. Calling on her experience in research labs and as a mom, author Liz Lee Heinecke has developed experiments that are safe enough for the youngest children in the house and engaging enough for the oldest.

What a fun book! The experiments are suitable for a wide range of ages and illustrate fundamental scientific principles in a fun and exciting hands-on way. My five year old and I made yeast balloons, grew bacteria in petri dishes and made alien monster eggs. He loved it, and so did I!

Liz Heinecke’s "Kitchen Science Lab for Kids" contains an even 52 family-friendly experiments, perfect for a year's worth of discovery. And with 12 diverse, themed sections including Acids and Bases, Crystal Creations and Physics in Motion, the book will pique even the most reluctant scientist's interest.

Heinecke clearly presents each experiment like a recipe detailing materials needed, instructions, safety tips, an explanation of the science involved and opportunities for further exploration. Many colour photos enhance the text and feature a cast of children ranging from preschoolers to teens. The book certainly proves the accessibility of science; even the youngest can get their hands dirty with a bit of guidance.

A great gift book for those seeking alternatives to screen time, "Kitchen Science Lab for Kids" will provide boundless family entertainment. After all, who can resist a brilliant twist on the old baking soda/vinegar combo: Frankenworms?!
