There are hundreds of metaphors for God, but the church only uses a few familiar images: creator, judge, savior, father. In this book, Lauren Winner gathers a number of lesser-known tropes, reflecting on how they work biblically and culturally, and reveals how they can deepen our spiritual lives.

Not Winner's best work. The book sis very disjointed and while each chapter has a different theme, all of the quotes in between the text are distracting. It seems like she had an idea (write a book about ways we can better understand God) but it just seems like it has too many quotes and not enough personal reflection. Very disappointing.
