This 1957 drama/crime film stars Audrey Hepburn and Gary Cooper. After a private investigator discovers that a man’s wife has been having an affair, the man decides to kill the “other man” until his daughter saves his life. Many things unfold beyond this point which add new layers and plot points to the film. Audrey had a wonderful performance as always, which is probably why so many of her films are classics. My one major issue with the movie is that the number of plot twists made it somewhat hard to follow along with things at times. I would rate this movie 4.5/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

I love Audrey Hepburn. I love Billy Wilder. Love in the Afternoon is the last of their two collaborations and also the lesser. It does share the same problem as Sabrina, where Hepburn is paired with a leading man who hasn't an ounce of chemistry with her, though at least in the earlier movie Linus Larrabee was a palatable character: a bit reserved and businesslike, but kind and gentle, ultimately worthy of the heroine. Gary Cooper's character is just a drunk jerk; there was nothing appealing about him and I never got why Arianne remained enamored of him even after his bad boy allure wore off.

There are some funny scenes and witty lines. Maurice Chevalier's supporting performance is entertaining. But the pacing lags and the love story isn't convincing, at least not to me.

And as the other commenters have mentioned, this disc skips A LOT. It was a miracle it played all the whole way through!

GOOD 1957 romantic comedy with terrific star performance by British actress Audrey Hepburn at age 26. I did enjoy the somewhat whacky plot, but the 'May-December' romance between young Ariane as played by Audrey and the much older Frank Flannagan as played by Gary Cooper didn't really work for me. There was quite a bit of fun plot especially with Ariane's detective father character.

This movie grows on you. There is some pure slap stick but Audrey is so great in wonderful example of man chases women until he IS CAUGHT. great example of an intelligent comedy.

Absolutely loved this movie and Maurice Chevalier was excellent! The topic is not super family friendly, but the performances of Hepburn and Cooper are too hilarious to miss. :D

Whatever its virtues, this cassette simply does not work, not on our cassette player.
