Ian - husband, father, maths teacher and Mormon bishop - has an unshakeable belief that everything will turn out all right if he can only endure to the end, like the pioneers did. His wife Claire has lonely wait for a sign from God and her desperate need for life to pause while she comes to terms with what's happened. It is the story of the agony and hope of Zippy Bradley’s first love. The story of Alma Bradley’s cynicism and reluctant bravery. And it is the story of seven-year-old Jacob. His faith is bigger than a mustard seed, probably bigger than a toffee bonbon and he’s planning to use it to mend his broken family with a miracle.

A Song for Issy Bradley is a remarkable book. The characters are engaging. The story is tender and compelling. This is one of those books that is difficult to put down. This novel is surprisingly funny at times, and even more surprisingly eloquent when it seems the writer may be bordering Hallmark-style fluff. Readers of moving family dramas will likely enjoy this one.

A beautifully written book that gives insights into a devout Morman family struggling to come to terms with the sudden death of their 4 year-old daughter/sister from meningitis. For some family members religion provides comfort and certainty, but for others it fails, leaving them bewildered, exasperated and despairing. The author maps these individual struggles with belief and grief with great skill and sensitivity.

For a first time writer, Ms. Bray totally nailed this book. She made you angry, sad, but there were funny moments as well. It gives you a real insight into a religious fanatic’s life.

Beautiful story of how each member of a family handles the death of a member and how that grief is influenced by their faith or lack there of. Would highly reccomend.
