Add a CommentReese Witherspoon as the somewhat jaded employment agency executive becomes involved with 3 refugees from the south Sudan. This movie reinforces my belief that people born in Canada won the birth lottery, through no action of our own. Reese's initial frustration with the lack of savvy these immigrants display gradually gives way to grudging respect and then something more ... commitment to other humans. It avoids being a syrupy movie as this is not about a noble white person emotionally opening to immigrants. The characters of the refugees are all different and as they integrate into the community they elicit responses that are probably pretty common to refugees and other immigrants. Responses that do not always reflect well on those of us born here. It is about survival but not physical prowess rather emotional and mental survival. It should also be noted that as we have increasing numbers of environmental refugees it is a movie that might help us understand what our culture looks like to people for very different ways of life.
We enjoyed it immensely.
About African refugees who make their way to the United States where they discover that tribes do not matter and people here have to make it on their own. Emotional. 'Huck Finn' is examined.
GREAT movie - highly recommend.
Directed by Philippe Falardeau in 2014, this docudrama depicts the struggle of the orphaned children in Sudan and their journey to America.
Although the story seems appealing to the heart of the audience, the real-life nuance doesn't show up in this Hollywood production.
This type of production would be much better in a documentary format.
Amazing, inspiring, heartbreaking true story of humanity, suffering, troubles in time of war in Sudan in 1983. Most of all the children went through so much of lost, death, pain and suffering behind imagination for so young souls that have to survive by themselves. If I was the writer, I will change the title of this movie to be more suitable to the dramatic , unbelievable true story of the rescue of the Lost Boys in Sudan during the war in 1983. " The lost Boys of Sudan" will be perfect as a title. Also, one short part of the movie is not playing well. Librarian notified.
An OK flick about the trials and tribulations of immigrants from the Sudan. All in all, a propaganda piece supporting the notion that the U.S. should be the safe haven for refugees from around the world.
Inspiring without being insipid, sad without being hopeless. Beginning of the film is a graphic depiction of civil war including murdering children and a near-starvation trek . How the Lost Boys and Girls adjust to America is frequently funny, with a fresh look at American culture seen from new eyes (pizza is considered a godsend), throwing away expired food is incomprehensible. 9/11 creates a poignant twist for two brothers newly reunited.
Amazing film about humanity. Inspirational refugee based on true life story.
An amazing movie. Everyone in my family loved it.
This is one of the best films I've ever seen. A friend of ours recommended it, and I was impressed. Not for younger children, though.
