What a refreshing change--a young adult sci-fi novel with an absolute minimum of teenage angst and no 'love' triangle--just a compelling main character, a vivid world, and a decent plot. Looking forward to the next one!

Good story, and there is a sequel coming! Loved the mix of Hawai'ian folklore and mythology, it made it more plausible.

The 2nd book to this, "The Girl at the Center of the World" is slated for release in August, 2015!

Fast paced, gripping, and so intense that I actually lost sleep worrying about Leilani & her family! I've read a lot of YA dystopian over the last few years, but this one managed to feel fresh and original - and entirely too plausible.

A good book to introduce to sixth or seventh graders who feel the urge to fit in and how to respond it a crisis. Use of Hawaiian slang -like "haole" and "hapa" in the book can launch discussion on discrimination and identity.
