Cart and Cwidder is the first in the best-selling Dalemark Quartet of books and tells the story of Moril and his brother and sister who are travelling musicians journeying through Dalemark, until one day they pick up a mysterious passenger. Somehow Moril's family and the stranger are becomingbound together in terror, flight, and music.* Diana Wynne Jones is recognized as being one of the most outstanding writers of fantasy in recent times.* The Dalemark Quartet books are for good readers who have enjoyed the Christopher Chant books by the same author. The books contain the same ability to immerse the reader with real child characters having magical adventures in an imaginary world.* This genre of fantasy writing is currently very popular due to the success of the recent 'Lord of the Rings' film.* Diana Wynne Jones has won the Guardian Award for fiction and has written over twenty novels in less than twenty years.

A simple, well-told tale of a boy forced to grow up fast when his family suddenly falls apart and he's forced to flee. Making things more complicated, he inherits a magical cwidder-- an instrument imbued with immense power that he can't quite control.

"It's like life," Clennen said. "You may wonder what goes on inside, but what matters is the look of it and the kind of performance we give. Remember that."
