This is a great series featuring a young widow paired with a reticent anatomist who show a talent for solving mysteries in victorian England.
In this outing, Harriet & Crowther are confronted with the horrors of the British West Indies slave trade after a former plantation owner is found dead. Clever plotting, dryly witty dialogue & the ongoing question of whether these two will ever become more than just companions makes for a quick, compulsive read.
There are many peripheral characters, professional &/or eccentric, who flesh out the story & are well developed.
For fans of the series by Deanna Raybourne or just a well written victorian mystery.
