After Barbara and Adam Maitland are killed in a car crash, they find themselves trapped as ghosts in their beautiful New England farmhouse. Their peaceful 'existence' is disrupted when a yuppie family, the Deetz's, buy their house. The Maitlands are too nice and harmless as ghosts and all their efforts to scare the Deetz's away are unsuccessful. They decide to call to Beetlejuice, a people-exorcizing ghost, for help.

I included this movie for our Fall Family Movies Marathon for this year. My son hadn't seen it before all the way and it reminded me so much of my childhood!

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! One of my favorites. Really creative. Love Burton's direction & his quirky touches. Liked all the actors & all of the gags in the movie.

“Beetlejuice” is about Adam and Barbara Maitland, a young, happy couple living in a big house in a small New England town. After their untimely death, the couple continues to peacefully live (or haunt, you could say) their home, but are soon disturbed by the arrival of the Deetz family. The Deetz family consists of Charles (a real estate developer), his second wife Delia (a sculptress), Lydia (Charles’ goth, teen daughter from his first marriage), and Otho (Delia’s interior designer friend). Unhappy with the alterations the older Deetzes begin to make to their beloved home, the Maitlands enlist the help of Betelgeuse (a “bio-exorcist”) to scare the other family away. The Maitlands begin to feel conflicted about this though, as they befriend Lydia, who is able to see them despite the adult Deetzes and Otho being unable to do so. Of course, nothing goes according to plan when the Maitlands try to send Betelgeuse away, and hilarious chaos ensues.

“Beetlejuice” is a classic Tim Burton film: creepy, yet funny and heartwarming. It can also be described as a comedy-horror film. The movie’s plot is unique and straightforward, and won’t confuse audiences. “Bettlejuice” has two main settings (the Maitland’s house and the Afterlife) and they are both incredible, as they add senses of wonderment and homeliness to an otherwise fantastical movie. The characters are all lovable and interesting, and each person has their own flaws and quirks. The actors all do an amazing job in their performances too. While some of the special effects are a little suspect (in a good ol’ 80s way), most of the effects are done with stop-motion animation and makeup, which makes them creepy and entertaining.

Overall, the author of this review highly recommends “Beetlejuice”. It’s a great movie that will entertain a wide range of audiences. The author of this review believes this film to be suitable for people ages thirteen and up due to Betelgeuse’s antics.

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. The best thing is the shrunken head guy. Classic.
