In THE MARSHMALLOW TEST, renowned psychologist Walter Mischel explains how self-control can be mastered and applied to challenges in everyday life--from weight control to quitting smoking, overcoming heartbreak, making major decisions, and planning for retirement. With profound implications for the choices we make in parenting, education, public policy and self-care, THE MARSHMALLOW TEST will change the way you think about who we are and what we can be."--From publisher.

Utterly fascinating and worth reading twice. The author, however, seems unwilling to admit plainly the continuing relevance of operant conditioning.

Especially useful for parents and educators, this readable book shows how self-control predicts success in life. While the said self-control is more natural for some, the great news is that, with the current evidence of brain malleability, children can learn strategies to enhance their self-control, improving their quality of life both now and in the future.
