Wow, I have read Amis before (Night Train, Lionel Asbo). I really like him just beacuse he was a close friend to The Hitch and Rushdie that is why I started reading Amis books. Night Train was ok for me but Lionel Asbo its really funny book.
The Zone of Interest is a whole other level. I personally think that the idea behind this book its a goodone, one of the best ideas for a book in my personal opinion. To narrate a story and in the background the most horrific genocide and torture the humanity has gone through its a great idea. Why? well because we are very familiar with The Holocaust stories that covey and make the reader "know" the moral bankruptcy behind that event. Amis puts it there on the background and its even more real, human, and unbearable.
But, it its impossible fore me to read this book in on go. I would say that its an amazing book to read from time to time but unbearable to read it in one go.

A disturbing book, in more than one sense.

This a rather artful book about a very sensitive subject. While it is a dark satire he remains respectful to the victims of the depraved Nazi regime. It's the officers and hangers-on that Amis targets, with excellent results.
