Loved the book - so well written and I enjoyed the time spent on character development. Am impatient for the next one.

Read the Farseer trilogy and then skipped ahead to read this book as it is clearly about Fitzchivalry again. Sadly the author is very aware that this will be a trilogy and very little plot development need be wasted on the first book. Also the constant "flashbacks" that attempt to fill in the stories from previous books, get really tedious after a while and I started to skip them.

For a supposedly intelligent protagonist,Fitz/Tom seems to stumble around making amazingly stupid decisions.

Will read the next book but am getting a little tired of stretching one good book into 3 mediocre ones

There's new characters to meet and old ones to catch up on. Slowly the picture gets drawn and the participants become known to us. At the end, the pace picks up a lot. This is Hobb in my favorite of her milieus and it is a great read.
