"Actress and author Shirley MacLaine contemplates a wealth of subjects from the mundane to the esoteric in this all-new collection of musings that begin with two simple words: What if--What if hope is the most dangerous emotion? What if a frog had wings? (Answer: He wouldn't bump his ass so much.) What if our political leaders actually led? What if Downton Abbey was full of Americans? What if, for some reason, I couldn't be creative and work? These are just a few of the what ifs that Shirley MacLaine considers in her new book written in the style of her beloved and laugh-out-loud memoir I'm Over All That. In What If, she speculates on a wide range of matters both spiritual and secular, humorous and profound, earth-bound and high-flying, personal and universal. This is Shirley MacLaine at her most funny, acerbic, imaginative, and irresistible"--Provided by publisher.

Tried several of her books and found them confused and hard to follow. She may be an interesting person to talk to but her writing puts me to sleep. She's entitled to her beliefs, but the way she writes about them is not convincing.

Shirley MacLaine's belief system for dummies is the best way to describe this book. I can't say I agree with it, but I respect her viewpoint now.

I read parts of this book to get a feel for how the theme progresses from beginning to end. While it is thought provoking and fun to on occasion speculate on some of the possibilities brought up I became bored in a matter of minutes For this reason I would not recommend this book to others.

Shirley MacLaine is such an interesting woman, but maybe it's time she stopped writing? Or maybe a lot of the questions she asks in the book seem to be ones that she and others have covered many times over. Or maybe I'm just jaded this week, but at any rate, I didn't finish, although I did find her very short insert about Stephen Hawking to be insightful and new.
