Absolutely love this series. Leaves you filled with child like wonder thinking what if we lived in this crazy magical world. Takes you to a different place for those of you who like to dive into a good story and escape reality for a bit!

Magyk, the first book in septology by Angie Sage, is a fantasy novel where wizards and knights roam the world. It follows the story of the main character, Septimius Heap, the seventh son of a seventh son, who is destined to become a great wizard. In the beginning of the book, it begins quickly, with the characters finding the daughter of the murdered queen freezing in the snow, and Septimius being proclaimed dead at birth. The book only continues to escalate, with Septimius having survived, and is taken as the apprentice for the ‘Extra-Ordinary Wizard’, the most powerful wizard in the country. This entire book series takes existing concepts, such as magic or physics and transforms them into their own unique ideas throughout the series. The book is mainly character based, unlike many books that focus on concepts instead. This helped the development and changing of characters, however, slowed down the development of the plot, which is what makes books interesting to me. The fantasy/magic aspect of the series I enjoyed, however, the slow plot and stretched out mundane scenes I found boring and too common. Overall, the book has interesting characters, an excellent concept, and incredible imagery, however, the book is too character based, to the point where it begins to take away from the development of the plot. I recommend this book to people who are interested in the characters over the plot, or the fantasy genre. 3/5. @Xeno of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to ages 10 to 25. If you read it lower than ten, it is confusing and it may be boring if you read it after about 25. Magyk is a wonderful book.

Great book, many characters! I especially reccomend this book to Harry Potter or Sisters Grimm fans.

The first time I tried out this book it didn't seem that appealing to me.
Than, one day I decided to try it out and again and LOVED it. I never thought that I would end up liking this book and set off to finish the series.

I had trouble keeping track of all the characters in this middle-grade fantasy. Not my favorite style, but it was a quick and easy read. If you know any fantasy fans who like fast-paced adventures, recommend this book to them. Read-alike: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling.

Great book! I read this a while ago, but didn't really understand it (I was young). Now that I'm older, it's amazing!

Aaarrrgggghhhh!!!!! Now that I need flyte it's not there c'mon what's the point of a library if you can't get the 2nd book to a 7 series. Well this is the job of a library, when ever you are looking, whanting or needing something it's never there. BPL members this is a library rule.

I had tried this book a few years ago, and it had not struck my fancy. I decided to try it again, though, and I LOVED it! This book is packed with creativity and rich characters. So glad there are so many more in the series!
