Former U.S. Marshal Simon Fisk works as a private contractor, recovering children kidnapped by their own estranged parents. Haunted by the still unsolved disappearance of his own daughter, he won't touch stranger abduction cases. Then six-year-old Lindsay Sorkin disappears from her parents' hotel room in Paris, and the French police deliver Simon an ultimatum: he can spend years in a French jail for his actions during a past case, or he can find Lindsay.

Good, hard-to-put-down read: fast-paced action; short, snappy chapters; interesting characters and locales (Belarus, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Ukraine) and descriptions thereof.

Fast-paced and action packed. Depicts Europe as a dark and lawless place with porous borders where the bad guys operate with impunity and the "good" guys run amok too.

fast paced book... can't put it down. Switches gears faster than a BMW motorcycle.

...dumb, stupid luck.... wasn't that the worst of all our fears? Something we couldn't at all control. A tumor in the colon, a drunk driver barreling down the wrong side of the road, striking us head-on because we'd decided to forgo the two-dollar delivery fee and order Chinese takeout instead.... Those who just happened to be... flying from Boston to Los Angeles on September 11, 2001. [Ch. 47]
