In A Savage LandDVD - 1999
Set in the Pacific at the outbreak of the Second World War, a husband and wife anthropologist team travels to a remote island (Papua New Guinea, Trobriand Islands) to study the sexual mores of a group of villagers where women have higher status than men. But their marriage begins to break down when the wife realizes that her husband is wrongly interpreting the research to further his own academic ambitions. With the help of a pearl trader, she travels to another island to conduct her own study. While she is away, disaster strikes when natives attack her husband and war breaks out in the region. In her husband's death, the wife seeks refuge in island mourning traditions and in the love of the pearl trader.
