"After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father's mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sits heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk. Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated with the last pure-blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she's unprepared for Wrath's response--or the distance it creates between them. The question is, will true love win out...or will tortured legacy take over?"--

This book was a helluva lot better than the previous two, that's for sure. Mostly likely because it was mostly the females POVs, which I find are less whiny than the males for some reason. Who knows. I enjoyed this one and that's saying something since this is book 12! gasp gasp!

Loved this installment as much as the previous! Ward has me hooked on this series and these characters, and I really wish there was a date for the next book already. She has a great way of infiltrating the main story with tidbits about the stories to come, such as Trez and Selena, Assail and Sola, and perhaps even iAm will have one come along! Superb series for anyone that enjoys vampires, dark suspense, or a good paranormal romance.

I love this book, author and series, and this particular novel was full with plots and sub plots. However, I am going to warn fans that it closes with some many hanging threads as to be fairly described as "unfinished".
I wonder if the publisher was getting squeamish about the book length so the author cut it short.
Can't wait for the next one (but maybe I'll read the paper version so I don't throw my Kindle across the room again)

J. R. Ward's writing is as colourful as ever in this story involving all the members of the Brotherhood. Sometimes hard to remember who's who, but an intriguing book all the same.

Book 12 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, preceded by Lover at Last and followed by ???? (so many choices) This is a story mostly of Beth's and Wrath's dilemma of having a baby. The book is long (573pgs) but it is not boring as many subplots emerge. I mostly liked to follow the story of Assail and Sola, but then there was Trez and Selena, Xcor and Layla; perhaps even iAm and/or s'Ex will find their true loves in the next books. I can't wait for the next one in the series and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be Assail's and Sola's story.

A lot of side stories but main plot involves Wrath & Beth. He's facing a challenge from the glymera for the throne & Beth is still fixated on having a child.
Several of the subplots don't really go anywhere & come across as set-ups for subsequent books (confess I skimmed through parts of these). In historical passages, we get the whole story behind Wrath's parents (their life & death) & how that ties in to current events & alliances. It also tells us how the king became one of the BDB.
That being said, the main plot is fast paced & engrossing. Despite its' size, it's a quick read.

The one things I notice most about readers is....... no one likes change but life is ever changing and you just learn to go with the flow or stay stagnated in one place for too long the problem with society today is everyone is so ready to be judge jury and executioner.. this is not a judgement however just an observation.... have a good one Y'all.

Too many side stories that don't have anything to do with the main one. Typically I love JR Ward's books, however, I think she used this one to try to begin writing several other books which was very distracting to the story line in this one. There was no smooth transition, and the other characters/stories did not even have an impact on the story she was in currently so it almost seemed pointless, and just distracting. Many people probably just skimmed through those scenes to get to the scenes relevant to the actual storyline.
