After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

Possibly I was expecting too much from this author. I felt that many comments were frequently repeated. Not a page turner for me, but good reader.

J.K.Rowling found another genre after the Harry Potter books that she can show her talent in. She expertly spins the web like a spider around the culprit. The story is more enjoyable as an audiobook due to the masterful narration. Can't wait for the third book in the series (Career of Evil that will be published in the Fall of this year).

Really enjoyable audiobook, Robert Glenister is probably the best narrator I have listened to; a very good grasp on the various English dialects.

Liked this atmospheric piece. The diverse characters rang true, especially with the accents... Only weakness was the ending, which was surprisingly (and needlessly) self-indulgent.

This was a fun audio book to listen to. I enjoyed the narrator and felt like he did a good job portraying all the characters. I'm glad I listened to it though because I feel like this works better as a listen than a read.

Such a stupid ending. It was very disappointing since it was well written and the characters were very likable. I was going to read The Silkworm as well but I won't bother now.

I loved this book. It is beautifully written, with great characters. I liked Strike and his new secretary a lot, and they made an interesting team. I wasn`t entirely convinced by the killer by it doesn`t matter to me. I think good characterisation within the detective genre is what appeals most to me.
