I really dig Chuck Wendig's fast-paced writing and punk worldbuilding. The book can be kind of heavy-handed at times with its politics, but like with Cory Doctorow's fiction, it's politics I agree with, so I actually enjoy the heavy-handedness.

writing good, just not into storyline or characters. I think i would have enjoyed more if i was closer to the teen end of the spectrum instead of retirement end.....

I'm a big fan of Chuck Wendig, both of his published writing and the excellent (if often x-rated) writing advice he dispenses from his blog. However, this book just wasn't for me. Not due to the writing, or characterisation - both of those were as good as ever. But it's not a story that appeals to me, not a situation I was grabbed by. I'll stick with Bait Dog and Blue Blazes and Bad Blood.

This well-imagined and suspenseful adventure draws you deep into the Heartland, where the corn will as likely kill you as feed you and the sky-dwelling Empyrians make sure the land-dwellers don't think or act too much for themselves.
