This is Lippman's best work to date. The skipping in time and voice was annoying at times, but it is worth it because when all is relieved at the end, it become apparent that we needed to see how each character became who she was. There is only a passing reference to Crow, the child and Tess, but we have a good understanding of how it all ties together and leads to the next book in the Tess series.

Sandy is a very interesting character, and having his story laid out for us will make the next book even better.

I did not feel this was one of her best writings, it seemed to drag a lot. The bouncing around through the different story years, got to be somewhat annoying. There seemed to be a lot of info about the characters that just did not seem relevant to the story.

Once you get into it, it's hard to put dow. The ending, while surprising, is satisfyingly believable.

Overall a satisfying read although it dragged a bit in places. The story shifts between past and present and comes together nicely with a surprising ending.

I highly recommend this book, which I could not put down. The author brings the characters to life, makes them real and makes the reader care about them. Then she ties it all together with a completely plausible, surprise solution to the mystery.

I do not like this book as well as the Tess series. The characters are not very interesting and I find it disappointing. Hard to stick with it.

Part mystery, part character study. The story jumps back and forth in time from the 1950s to present day. Although at times I had trouble keeping track of some of the characters, I really enjoyed this slow-paced, yet page-turner of a book.
