The latest instance sends police investigator Hanne Wilhelmsen to a macabre crime scene outside of town. An abandoned shed is covered in blood, with an eight-digit number on one wall. There is no body. As more such cases appear, Hanne's colleague makes a startling discovery: they are the filing numbers of foreign immigrants, all female, all missing.

(The second book in the Hanne Wilhelmsen series)

This is the second book in the series following Detective Hanne Wilhelmsen. Just a short snip of a book at just over 200 pages, it is not the sort of crime book that you sink your teeth into. rather, if you enjoy your crime like the BBC's old show New Tricks, you're going to enjoy this book.
A series of blood spattered crime scenes are found by the Oslo police with alarming regularity. All that stands out is a series of strange numbers at every scene. Hanne Wilhelmsen set about solving the crime with Hakon Sand and Billy T. Interspersed with the crime are snippets of Wilhelmsen's personal life which keeps things interesting. Everything falls neatly into place and the ending is satisfactory.
The book was originally written in 1994, so you have to forgive the lack of technology that is taken for granted now. It is a read in one session kind of book.

It is hard to remember 1994--and only top ranked police officers having computers. I enjoyed the book but can't rave over it. For those interested in Scandinavian crime fiction, this is a good addition to your list of potential series to read. It really is not an action series; the pace is slow, and the actions of officers are deliberate.
