One of the greatest basketball players of all-time, yet always seemed to be a mystery to me when I was a kid. He was a New York City playground legend, yet didn't play at a major college (in the 60s major colleges weren't interested in "playground" talent). But he was so good he turned pro before finishing school to join the ABA--thus missing a chance to play in the Olympics. So he was one of the "least-seen" superstars you can imagine. Finally joined the NBA after the merger and won an MVP and one NBA title.
I learned a lot more about his personal life, as he freely discusses his problems with infidelity (multiple children out of wedlock--but he quietly supported all of them), and the tragic deaths of his baby brother, older sister, and one of his sons in a car crash.
Worth the read for any NBA/ABA fan--especially of that era.

It was a moving story very well written. I appreciate that Dr. J. shared his life story with us.
