Nine DaysBook - 2013

Nine days was an interesting read. Although it was quite unrealistic, seeing as two kids traveled around the world by themselves, it had a few elements I rather enjoyed. One thing I like is the relationship between the two characters because it progresses from a crush to two people willing to sacrifice everything for each other. My favorite character in the book was Ethan because he was the most relatable considering I would probably be just as clueless as him in china. The people Ethan and Ti-Anna meet along the way also intrigue me quite a bit. So example the two girls they meet right after they board the plane were quite friendly. They gave the book a friendly vibe and which was different from the serious problem Ethan and Ti-Anna were facing. My other favorite character was radio man because he was shrouded in mystery. His work to send messages over the radio to help the Chinese democratic movement was very interesting. Although there were a lot of good aspects to the novel, it also seemed boring at times. The story progressed too slowly and many times I wanted to put it down. Also they were many times where the plot didn't seem to be going anywhere. The dialogue between Ethan and Ti-Anna also didn't develop very often. At first they seemed like they were getting along well and at other times it seemed like she hated him. A lot of times it felt like she was just using him to get to her father. Overall I didn't enjoy the book that much but it had parts that were worth reading.
