Listening for Lucca, written by Suzanne LaFleur is a stand alone novel. This novel follows Siena and her brother Lucca, who stopped talking more than a year ago, as their family decide to move to Maine. As Siena gets settled into her house, she gets pulled into the history of their new house as she starts to see through the eyes of the old owners who passed away during the time of World War II. With the mystery of the past left unsolved as well as the present problems including her brother, Siena is thrown into a whirlwind of confusion, mystery and adventure. Overall, this novel is perfect for all ages, as the author creates an intriguing conflict and a variety of themes such as self-discovery and overcoming obstacles.

I enjoyed listening to the author's gentle voice journeying with Siena and Siena's coming to term's with her psychic gift and the ability of imagination to both hurt and harm. When the book ended I was sad -- I felt I would have liked it to go on forever.

"Siena is happy to move from New York to Maine since it means she'll be able to make new friends who don't know about her freaky ability to see glimpses of the past. The move might also encourage her mute younger brother, Lucca, to start talking again. But the new house feels curiously familiar, and soon Siena realizes that both Lucca's muteness and her own visions are deeply (and maybe dangerously) intertwined with the lives of the family of who lived in the house during World War II. Readers who loved the mysterious layers of Rebecca Stead's When You Reach Me won't be able to resist this time-tripping story of family and friendship."
