A pregnant 12 year-old girl who won't reveal who the father is, walks chest deep into the freezing waters of a New Zealand lake and disappears. Robin Griffin is called in to investigate and becomes more and more obsessed. As she searches, she slowly begins to realize that finding the girl is tantamount to finding herself, a self she has kept well hidden. A powerful and haunting story about our search for happiness, where the dream of paradise attracts its dark twin, the fall.

It could have been a better series! Had a potential! Some interesting scenes, while others too violent or overdone! A weird, dark story, that was too long!
Not worth the time to watch it!
The ending was unsatisfactory, also! It could have used more explanation and more scenes to clarify! We were left to guess what happened to some characters and their outcome! Poor editing in places! I don't recommend this series! Better shows out there!

Directed by Campion and Garth Davis and aired as a BBC TV program in 2013, this 6-episode mystery drama delves into the investigation of the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl in New Zealand.
Although it appears like a haunting story, the plotline seems ill-contrived for the sake of complexity.

Both seasons 1 and 2 are riveting. Holly Hunter is brilliant in season 1 and Elisabeth Moss is just a pleasure to watch in any role.

Great mystery set in the South Island Lake district of New Zealand. A 12-year-old girl is found to be 5 months pregnant; however, she goes missing before the father can be identified and charged. Young detective, Robin Griffin, leads the investigation to find her and the identity of the father.
Quite tense in some sections and slow in others; the episodes get progressively more powerful as the end draws near. Great character development and awesome scenery!

Robin says there were 4 then in season 2 there were 3. Discrepancies and unanswered questions in both seasons.

The story was a very choppy & low budget quality. Scenery was good. Elizabeth Moss never disappoints.
I wouldn't waste 6 hrs on this one.

Good plot, but it left me wanting more details, unfinished.

Other: Strong - yet quite warped - theme of feminism is present throughout. Women attempt to assert themselves but attack each other and behave like doormats.

Sexual Content: Strong themes of incest, pedophilia, and rape. Two of which are not resolved in the plot. None are graphic or show nudity but all are disturbing nonetheless. There is nudity with some of it full frontal but blurred or done respectfully.

Violence: Warning about a scene involving a dog being senselessly shot. A tad graphic and unnecessary to the plot.

Al: No, no one's ever really friends with Matt. Still, I'm close enough to regret it.

CJ (Holly Hunter): The pain will never be too much, but when it is, the body goes unconscious. But you guys have drugs, yeah?
Jude: Yes, morphine.
CJ: That's not good. Find some heroin. In nature there is no death. Just a reshuffling of atoms.

CJ: The body has tremendous intelligence. Follow the body.
It will know what to do.
Tui: I don't want to be naked.
-- Hey, I've had a couple of kids. Had one at home. It was that quick and easy, I nearly missed it. God, lucky my sister was there...
