This is really more about an emotional scar that a young girl carries which ultimately and very movingly so comes to be shown as a gift. Although this is designed for a young reader - I believe many older women could relate to and benefit from this story. My one critique is the subtle insinuation that The Ugly One's worst enemy might become an intimate. This feels totally wrong and contrived in a book about empowerment -- showing the way.
