From the author of "The Good Soldiers," David Finkel writes with tremendous compassion, not just about soldiers but about their wives and children. Where do soldiers belong after their homecoming? Is it reasonable, or even possible, to expect them to rejoin their communities as if nothing has happened? And in moments of hardship, who can soldiers turn to if they feel alienated by the world they once lived in? These are the questions Finkel faces as he revisits the brave but shaken men of the US 2-16 Infantry Battalion.

"Compelling" covers this book. It's hard to read, and very credible. And we have the example of Romeo Dallaire living through his own haunted memories. Being a soldier is often terrible, and that often means terrible for life.

A compelling book which makes you wonder if our involvement in the Middle East is worth the devastation it has caused to many soldiers' lives.

A follow up to The Good Soldiers which follows some of the veterans after their return to the U.S. Their stories are heart-rending. Should be required reading by anyone serving in or running for Congress.
