The subject matter of this book had the potential to be a very good read. Unfortunately, this author did not deliver, and I found the book to be on the boring side. "Jackdaws" makes a better story using the same subject.

Simon Mawer has based his story on the women who were parachuted into France by the Special Operations Executive. It is a tense read. I would have preferred a different ending.

Good book. Very easy read. Totally enjoyed it.

Until the final chapter, I was preparing myself for a debate with the dust jacket's contention that The Girl Who Fell from the Sky (not so aptly renamed Trapeze for American readers) " both a gripping adventure story and a moving meditation on patriotism, betrayal and the limits of love." But that's exactly what it is. I'm quite sure Northop Frye would have shelved it somewhere between Shane and King Lear—likely closer to the former. This a compelling read; Mawer's hero, Marian Sutro, turns out to be a hero, one with questions that take the reader far beyond the typical spy thriller.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loved the glimpse into the past. It is set during the Second World War and the danger presented is captivating! The author has created such a strong and dynamic main character and although it didn't have the drama that kept you turning the pages and never wanting to put it down, you will walk away feeling sad that it's over. And the ending!!....I won't say any more!
As someone who reads a lot of Christian fiction, the story contained a little more sexual content than I would have preferred, but overall was a great book!

Interesting piece of history and a strong central character. Will have me looking for more of his work.

This is the story of woman parachuted into France as a courier during WW II whose job it is to get out a nuclear physicist. An unsentimental story about love, betrayal and patriotism. Recommended.

Simon Mawer is such a good writer...I did prefer The Glass House to this, but still an enjoyable read. I'm guessing Booker long list this year.
