Compared to A Dog's Purpose, I did not like this darker toned, teen melodrama as a sequel. The personality of the "puppy zero", Toby seemed to change according to the breed of dog Toby became rather than be consistent as it was in the Purpose. In Purpose, I cried many times, but not so much in Journey aside from the last page -- but I suppose you can't have the sweet without the sour. Purpose felt magical and serendipitous, while Journey just seemed a bit contrived and convenient in many circumstances - a money grab, maybe?

I do appreciate the darker themes for how they portray many sad realities in the real world. Think of Journey as the Jenny storyline in Forest Gump while Purpose as the Forrest story. I thought the author took a risk that didn't pay off for me. I found myself hurrying through the last few chapters as I grew impatient at the incessant mistake-making from the characters.

If dark storylines and teen drama are your thing, then this sequel may be right for you.

I would compare Purpose to be Harry Potter 1-3, and Journey to be 4-7.
I could take or leave this book, really.

A Dog's Journey was a heart warming story that will bring many people to tears. This story follows the main protagonist who feels his purpose is to protect and love Clarity though out he life. I highly recommend reading this book.

If you've read this and have not read the prequel, 'A Dog's Purpose' I highly recommend it. I think it is much better than this book although, it is still good.

This is a wonderful book, especially if you have ever had a dog.

If you love dogs and feel like a heartwarming, if predictable read/listen (I listened to the audiobook version), don't miss Cameron's follow up to A Dog's Purpose. Told from the dog's point of view, the story follows poodle cross Buddy and his reincarnations as he steadfastly protects and loves his humans. You'll be reaching for your hankies!!

a wonderful story, not your everyday Lassie but full of meaning, love, sorrow ,joy and developing in a spiritual way that applies to humans as well. i would recommend reading a dog's purpose first. while they are independent stories, it goes back to some of the characters in a purpose.

I loved this book! The perspective was a nice change from your usual book and I liked how CJ got older throughout Buddy's many lives. It was really sweet and leaves you thinking...

Touching, sweet, and delightful. For all animal lovers out there. I enjoyed this book so much that I have passed it onto my teenage daughter to read as well. Highly recommended!
