This book was very pleasant to read. Being a lover of art and Australia, it was really perfect. The language the author users is eloquent without being overly difficult to read. Now that I am done the book, I really want to look at some of Clarice's art. I didn't want to look at it before the end of the book, as I didn't want it to change the way that I read the art work descriptions. The one thing that always leaves me hanging with historical fictions is how much of the story is actually true? Reading so much about art, has inspired me to sign-up for a painting class.

Kristel Thornell's imagined life of Australian landscape painter Clarice Beckett is a sensory cornucopia as well as a testament to unwavering artistic commitment. Clarice's dreams were fevered and vivid, and without having seen any of Beckett's work but only pictured it through Thornell's evocative prose, I suspect Clarice's images and dreams will haunt my own.
