Totally agree with JCLNancyB....reads like a sequel, left wondering about previous employer and case referred to in all 3 books.....maybe Stanley should write a prequel? Otherwise, a likeable, hardboiled female lead, lots of period references bring the era alive. Perhaps a few too many cuss words for some readers....
Miranda Corbie is a San Francisco PI circa 1940. She smokes. She drinks. She plays hardball. She is a female Sam Spade. Stanley's novel is well-researched with vivid descriptions. One issue I had was that the book reads like a sequel. It is not, but there are so many references to a previous case, that I felt I was missing something.
If you are into mystery, noir and th 1940's, this book is for you.
Interesting twist on the noir genre with a female detective. Focus is on atmosphere and characters rather than plot.
