Ellen DeGeneres' personal chef, Roberto Martin, shares over 125 delicious vegan recipes he's created for Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi that he hopes will make healthy vegan cooking accessible and easy for everyone. Portia de Rossi explains in her foreword, "Roberto taught me that the key to making good food vegan is substitution...you can enjoy all your favorite foods and never feel deprived."

Some of the standouts Martin, a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef, has developed for Ellen and Portia include: Banana and Oatmeal Pancakes, Avocado Reuben, Red Beans and Rice, "Chick'n" Pot Pie, and Chocolate Cheesecake. Featuring mouthwatering photographs by award-winning food photographer, Quentin Bacon, this cookbook will appeal to die-hard carnivores and vegetarians alike.

This is my current favourite cookbook. Personal chef to Ellen and Portia, Roberto is an innovative chef who has developed vegan versions of their favourites. The recipes are easy and create delicious interesting dishes. No boring salads here!
This book is perfect for health-conscious cooks who want to make their diet more plant-based or people who want to make the switch to being vegan but don't know where to start.

I'm still relatively new to the vegan diet, and I found the philosophy behind this book very helpful. It helps to break down a recipe by the function of the different ingredients so you can make appropriate substitues. Some of the recipes were a little more intense, but if nothing else, they were great for inspiring my own new recipes. Oddly enough it made me more adventurous in my baking too! And the whole book is worth is for Teena's White Chick'n Chili recipe. I made a double batch 3 times in just a few weeks.

This book is not really useful to me as an experienced vegan cook. This is more useful for a beginner vegan that doesn't know where to start.

If you enjoy delightful food, you will enjoy this cookbook which offers chef-inspired and somewhat gourmet recipes that will satiate the palate of the meat-lover who would prefer not to eat animals. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have found Gardein products such as their vegan chicken, in my local supermarket (Ottawa Loblaws) and it is manufactured in BC. For other products, I can easily swap another brand, say for the veggie ground beef. (I lived in Victoria, and I'm pretty sure these products are available there).

A disappointment. No nutritional in ormation. Many recipes use meat and cheese vegan substitutes, and the brand names are not widely available - maybe in Cali, but not in BC.
