“Catching Fire” starts up from where “The Hunger Games” left off. Katniss Everdeen is living in the Victors Village with her family. It seems relaxing, but then there are rumours of a rebellion and Katniss and Peeta have become the faces of that rebellion since they won the hunger games. What I don’t understand is why Katniss and Peeta have to pretend they're in love to quiet down the rebellion. It just doesn’t make sense to me. What happens in “Catching Fire” was beyond cruelty. Honestly, I pitied Katniss from the start of this book. She finally escaped her nightmare and was given some freedom, only to return back to her nightmare. “Catching Fire” is a tightly-plotted, fast paced book with adventure and romance. It’s definitely a lot of the same thing. Some parts of the book felt so slow and a huge chunk of “Catching Fire” felt like it was told rather than shown. There are many twists in this book and the ending is a major, satisfying, cliffhanger. I would recommend reading this book if you enjoyed the first book, “The Hunger Games”, but I personally enjoyed reading “The Hunger Games” more than “Catching Fire”. 3.5/5 stars.

Amazing sequel to the AWESOME hunger games. :)

Young people killing one another: the highlight in the previous book, and pretty much the only light in this one. In other news, Katniss begins her career as the most mentally slow champion of the Hunger Games, and the evil government/industrial/media empire does stereotyped evil government/industrial/media empire things.

I am a sucker for listening to audio books. I have to say it beats reading, and I love sittling down to listen to a good story. The sequel to the hunger games was sort of a rehash of the first. there was a bunch of sappy stuff going on between peeta and Katniss, and it was another hunger games. Really I thought it was kind of boring, but I might read the last one. I can see why people raved about the first one, but the second one was just eh, in my opinion.

As always, surprisingly funny for a book that is set in a post-apocalyptic world. A decent read, but pretty predictable for as huge a bestseller as this series is.

I found the second book of the trilogy a lot more captivating and exciting than the first book. The mind games and intrigue just get deeper and deeper. Fascinating that everyone has to return to the games.

This series is going to be like the Matrix. The first one was the best but the next two disappoint. Too bad. This entire story is depressing. I'm trying to think of one genuine happy moment in any of the three books. The main character is not only flawed (which she admits, fine) but she’s consistently miserable. I of course had to follow book 2 and 3, but now I’m wishing I’d stopped at the first one. At least that was the classic underdog story. I wanted to like this series more. It doesn’t deserve all this praise.
