Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. And rumor also has it that a wound has left the earl immune to the charms of any woman. But Linnet is not just any woman: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love in two weeks. Yet Linnet has no idea of the danger posed to her own heart by a man who may never love her in return.

A bit of an unusual historical romance - not as strict in the rules of society, and I really loved that!

I liked this book, but it certainly wasn't the best romance novel I've ever read. The hero was a bit much, like a childish little boy constantly throwing tantrums, which was hard to take sometimes. However, the heroine called him on it, and he was forced to mature and learn to control himself, which was nice to see. The heroine for the most part was really fun to read. I loved her dry wit, and her approach towards life, with her screwed up childhood. However, the end of the book was little hard to take. And I don't like their son in the epilogue. Overall, the book was a fun, light read.

The book started on a pretty humorous note and I kinda took it along the entire way. I'm not sure if it actually was that funny and honestly, the H/h kinda somehow ended up together. Seems to me that at one point they were sending barbs each other's way and the next they're together, It just happened. I kinda liked both their personalities though, but theirs weren't solid probably because they were so sarcastic. The scarlet fever turn was pretty good and not normally seen so that was fun.

Well written, and fun to read. Tale of a reputation destroyed, an opportunity for social redemption and emotions gone awry. Less believable is the last minute rescue from a filthy hen house, but good enough despite it.

An unfortunate misunderstanding leads to Linnet being cast out of London, supposedly a fallen woman. No one will have her in her present state, so Linnet reluctantly agrees to wed Piers Yelverton, the Earl of Marchant.

Marchant is reputed to be a beastly man, one with a quick temper and very little social graces. In fact, he is a brilliant physician on the cutting edge of modern medical techniques. Yet, Marchant is also a wounded man with a painful limp, a man who loves to frolick in the sea and one who suffers mongrels in all shapes and sizes.

Linnet’s beauty strikes Piers at his very soul. Incredibly, Piers begins to feel yearnings he supposedly couldn’t possess. As his desire mounts, Linnet also finds herself being utterly swept away by the gruff earl, a happy circumstance which she could never have envisioned.

Unfortunately, the couple’s happiness is cut short by an epidemic of scarlet fever. The raging disease cuts into the makeshift hospital in the earl’s castle and soon attacks Linnet, as well. Piers rushes to save her, battling the disease plus demons of his own as he wrestles the woman back to health. He cannot help but wonder that if she is marred, will their perfect love also be similarly scarred? If only there could be happiness in the face of such tragedy. Excellent historical account and nice mixture of humor, wit and wills.

The magic in this novel (not the supernatural kind), is in the wonderful witty and humorous interactions between "The Beast" (Piers), and "The Beauty" (Linnet). Piers is decidedly one of the most intriguing heroes I have ever read about in a romance novel with his colorful (crass) personality which clashes and compliments Linnet's own honesty and fire so well. I thought this was an excellent rendition of Beauty and the Beast, though I did get tired of hearing about Linnet's perfect breasts, perfect body, perfect hair, perfect breasts...you get the picture.

just another take on the tale of beauty and the beast this is one of the best. it might not have the magic in it, but this one was great.
eloisa james spins a great tale of love wanted and yet not wanted.
perfect for the romantic in all of this.
