Could have used some serious editing. Dialogue was stilted and story line was pretty weak. More pontificating than story.

I did not read this book. It should have been burned. Contains crude language and a homosexual character.

Enjoyed the book even though the main human character seems implausibly wealthy. The story of water rights and the problems that can arise from it is current.
The mystery is well written but the ending is sort of a quick fix.
Still enjoyable to read though

Many characters to keep track of.
Water conservation theme was foremost in Nevada's economy, with no solutions. A definite bias against "developers."

Someone is buying up the water rights to the district. Mags and her dog Baxter have come to stay with Great Aunt Jeep Reed and her dog King on a ranch near Reno, Nevada. When updating the barn, they find a 100 year-old buried dead body. While trying to solve that mystery someone is on a killing spree in the present. Of course the dogs talk; to each other and the neighboring wild life (coyotes).
