A suspensefull, dystopic love triangle. Can't wait for the sequel! Ally Condie created a playlist of songs on her blog that complement the book. Worth listening to.

So cliche and predictable, I would not recommend this book. I only finished it because I had nothing better to do. It doesn't make sense to me and I have heard the second book is even worse. I never want to read this series again. Complete waste of my time.

Really, really good. A lot like The Giver and a little like The Selection. Though it was kind of predictable, it was still very well written. I read it very quickly, and I'm absolutely pining for the next book. Please read this, I loved it!

I liked this book, but it was pretty cliché. I felt like I had read this book before, since it had the same dystopian plot like the hunger games, etc. Even though it wasn't a very unique or original book, I still thought it was an interesting book.

Just BUY the BOOK

This book felt to me like a different version of books already written. The plot line felt similar to so many teenage girl dystopian books. If that's your thing, you'll love this book. If you're tired of that, this isn't the book for you.

I loved this book so much. The book looks similar for The Hunger Games movie and the book. Awesome! Awesome! I give it 5 stars for Ally Condie. Congratulations. :)

A strong 3 stars. A pretty decent YA dystopian novel, although it moved pretty slowly for a lot of the book. There's a definite teenage-romance feel to the story, with Cassia worrying over which boy to choose, and a lot of general agonizing over dresses and boys and whatnot, that turned me off; I just wanted her to get on with whatever she was going to do.
A lot of other reviewers have commented on the similarity to/called this a rip-off of Lois Lowry's The Giver, and while it's been a while since I read that book, I'm not seeing the rip-off. There are definitely some similarities, but it's mostly things that all dystopian novels have in common - the drab clothing, the job assignments, the government officials "encouraging" compliance. I didn't really see anything that appeared to be stolen from Lowry's book.

So this, in a really shallow way, is a love triangle story. You have the protagonist, Cassie, who needs to make quite a bit of choices in her life. In the Society, decisions are commonly made for you for "your" benefit. However, what if they were wrong? What about all those situations where people are doing the right thing, but wrong in the eyes of everyone else. What if you were assigned to one, but longed for another? How do you expect someone who has literally almost never had to make a serious decision, make a severely impacting and lasting one without fault? I personally really like Ky. But maybe that's just me. Xander seems almost, too, perfect. Poor Cassie though, having all that thrown at her. 5/5 stars

This is a great book for poetry lovers; poetry is very dear to the main character, and quotes from famous poems appear throughout the book. I found this book creative & well-written, but I didn't care for the "forbidden romance" part.

That's what happened to the society before ours. Everyone had technology, too much of it, and the consequences were disastrous. Now, we have the basic technology we need-ports, readers, scribes-and our information intake is much more specific... Such specialization keeps people from becoming overwhelmed. We don't need to understand everything. And, as the Society reminds us, there's a difference between knowledge and technology. Knowledge doesn't fail us.
