This book, unlike some other similar books, actually shows the vulnerable side of bullies. The main character is not really trying to defend his actions, so he comes off even better for that. When the bully in books defends himself, he generally looks guilty and/or inspires readers to act similarly. This was a refreshing change from such books.

I liked the natural feel of this characters point of view. It sounded very much like a real teen bully dealing with his demons. However this same aspect also made the story hard to follow at times. I enjoyed the story but at times I felt it difficult to understand what was going on.

This book has a very unique point of view, making the narrative follow more like a diary than a step-by-step description of what the main character is doing. By writing the narrative like it was taken from a notebook, it justifies why the protagonist is describing everything, and sets up a plot that essentially unfolds backwards, which doesn't feel awkward at all.

Sometimes, though, there are events where it would be weird to write from this perspective, such as in second-person.
