Wow, I really enjoyed reading this book! It has all my favourite things - fantasy set in a Renaissance-ish period, secrets, princes, and above all, a strong female lead. Celyn or Digger is great - able to quickly adapt to situations, and I like how she changes over the book. The author saves a lot of backstory till near the end although you can guess here and there what Celyn's secrets are. I recommend it for anyone who likes fantasy with a great heroine. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

An entertaining tale set in a fictional country ruled by an uber-religious autocrat. A professional thief falls in with a family of rebels and ends up unravelling secrets, against the backdrop of the ever-present Inquisition. The book was hard to get into, but I finally started to enjoy it over half-through. One thing I really liked was that Celyn, the main character, doesn’t quite fit the stereotypical “guttersnipe” mold, which gets old when every author uses it. Worth getting the sequel, I think.

This is EXACTLY the type of book I love, the setting, plot and characters really had me hooked. Certainly different but I think it kind of is like a Hilari Bell meets Tamora Pierce. I espssialy ( -I know I spelled that word wrong) liked the plot!

I loved this book as in when it finished I was like "no don't finish I don't want you to finish". Can't wait until the next book.

Poison Study meets Tamora Pierce meets Robin McKinley. A great pick for fans of fantasy, adventure, and strong female characters. Fabulous!

Loved this book--great characters, strong historical fantasy. What a fantastic world--I can't wait for the next one and I'm going to check out her first book.

Elizabeth Bunce doesn't shove a SASSY GIRL POWER YOU MUST LOVE HER lead in your face that makes you roll your eyes. She manages to write a female lead who is strong yet flawed and who naturally grows on you. I look forward to the sequel. Good for fans of Tamora Pierce.

Equally as good as Curse Dark as Gold, but the beginning of a new series. I can hardly wait for the next book!
