(The seventh book in the Guido Brunetti series)

Aug 17, 2014

Brunetti's called to this case in the country because the only identification for the body turned up by a tractor seems to be a distinctive signet ring with the seal of a prominent old Venetian family. The young man, the only child of the current Count and his wife, had been kidnapped a couple of years before. Two ransom notes were received, but the young man was never returned to his frantic parents. Brunetti finds many strange things about the case. When he solves it, with the help of Elettra, he is posed with a moral dilemma about what to do. This aspect is one of the things I love about Brunetti--he's a moral man, not just a cop. A dark story but one of Leon's best.
