When a researcher at the institute dies under suspicious circumstances, the stakes become starkly clear: a murder has been committed to obtain these lucrative new drugs. With lives and a new love hanging in the balance, Claire will put herself at the center of danger to find a killer--no matter what price she may have to pay.

With a WWII backdrop, the historic introduction of penicillin, a mystery, and a tender romance, how could you miss? Well, this author did. The book slogs along from one character’s disjointed, banal musings to the next. My search for a good medical thriller continues.

I really enjoyed the integrated history of penicillin. Being a healthcare worker I actually learned new facts about when penicillin was first produced - facts that were not previously common knowledge to the general public. The main characters of the novel were engaging but disappointing. I found the ending of the novel to be lack-lustre and the author could have come up with something more fitting.

My reading preferences are accurate historical novels and especially one I can identify with. During the time of this story, I was a child and a patient in the hospital with pneumonia. I wondered what the treatment was for me and if penicillin was an option. This novel enlightens and entertains even without a personal connection

Gripping! A "How far would you go to make your dreams come true, for love, and to protect those that you love" sort of novel.
