This is the 3rd title in the set in Ireland - mystery series.

Excellent series of 4 titles thru yr 209

Forensic pathologist Nora Gavin has lived and worked in Ireland with her now lover, archaeologist Cormac Maguire, since the murder of her sister, Triona years ago. During those years, Nora has been convinced her brother-in-law killed Triona, but has never had proof. Now she is ready to put closure to the nightmares and the questions, and leaves her life in Ireland for America.

As the unpredictable, surprising events wind toward closure, it’s astonishing how Hart brings the plot threads together to an ending you will never guess beforehand. Complex relationships, varied locales, the melancholy settings and the lush language – at times balladic – combine in a gripping tale of love and self-absorption.

Perhaps this is cataloged in 'fiction' rather than 'mystery' because of the amount of time spent on legends, songs, and extra character development (Cormac's father, Roz, Frank Cordova). This was a distraction rather than an enhancement to the core mystery, which, once again, was solved 30 pages from the end with a very long-winded resolution.

complex mystery with a touch of whimsey added with the references to 'selkies'. I'm going to try another of her mysteries.

Every character in this book has a tragedy in their life. A parent who has lost a child; a child who has lost a parent; a man who loses a brother; a woman who has lost a sister; a man who is estranged from his father; a Cambodian refugee who lost his entire family - enough already! In addition to those tortured souls we have a very forced selkie plot line. Erin Hart's third Nora Gavin novel was just too much of everything. If it was her first book I suspect fewer people would have read her other books.

Could not put it down. But I recommend reading the first two books in the series first.

This is the third book by Erin Hart in the Nora Gavin/Cormac
Maguire series. Archeaology and forensics blend with Irish fokelore and legends to produce a fabulous story. In this novel, Nora tries to find answers surrounding the death of her sister.
