This was the 1, off the charts, best book I've ever read! It had me CRYING FOR HOURS!!! When Daiyu left Jia, it was SO sad!!! She always loved Kalen, I could tell.
A perfect concoction of romance, action, adventure, and fate beyond this world. I was SO happy when Kalen came back. Although they didn't remember, they knew deep in their hearts they loved each other.
A gate to a different world -
and danger, and romance - Sharon Shinn

5 stars/off of the chart! I wish I could give it 10000

Interesting and involving. I think even adult readers will find this a worthy read -- though not a long one.

The Wizard of Oz meets The Matrix with a hint of Chronicles of Narnia. The Chinese terms were a bit distracting, but otherwise a good story: http://www.examiner.com/review/book-review-gateway-by-sharon-shinn

I thought this book was average because 3/4 of the book's plots were already told in the beginning, and a lot of things were expected. I also didn't like the characters, I felt like the author had to include White and Black people so more people would read it, but I found it a little offensive how she didn't know the language or how she was so ignorant about her Asian heritage. And I didn't get why they called the Black people "heiren" and White people "cangbai" instead of "bairen" (which would match more with "heiren"). But I did like the ending, a lot.

This was a good book, I like this author better in YA, but there were a few times where I wanted to smack different characters and the author. The premise is definitely interesting though.

Daiyu looked over the assortment of jewelry at the old woman's booth and didn't see anything she liked. She'd spent nearly an hour wandering outdoors around the Arch grounds, investigating the stalls being set up for Fair Saint Louis, and she'd been so surprised to see a jewelry vendor among the food booths that she'd stopped to look over the merchandise. But now she wished she hadn't. The necklaces were cheap, the summer heat was overwhelming, and in a minute she was going to be late getting back from lunch.
