This is a 1971 BBC TV production of the James Fenimore Cooper classic shot partly on a sound stage and partly on location in Scotland and featuring Anglo actors in redface. It seems dated yet somehow fresh at the same time. The Pan-Indianism of arch-villain Magua is compelling, as is Uncas' devotion to the doomed Cora. I liked it. And come to find out the popularity of the series had something to do with the popularity of "Mohawk" hair among the Punks.
