Scotland Yard's Adam Dalgliesh investigates the murder of a drug dealer found dead in the basement of a book club. His key witness is a single mother named Sally Jupp who had brought her eight-week-old son with her to the club to visit her former co-workers. The investigation leads Dalgliesh to the country home of the Maxie family, where the young woman is now employed. Mysterious deaths occur, and the detective must deal with a multitude of suspects, evasive answers, and his growing attraction to Deborah Riscoe.

Seen a few of P.D.James' work in TV form. In general, boring. Ms. James is trying to wrap a melodrama with a thriller or the other way round. At the end, people looking for a thriller disappointed by the dragging, while the accidental drama viewer find way too many bodies to bear. In general if the tv series were cut into one-third the length, it would have been an excellent detective story.

kpelish says Martin Shaw "normally" plays Adam Dalgliesh - actually Roy Marsden had a successful run as the detective well before Martin Shaw was cast in the re-makes. When P.D. James saw Roy Marsden in the role, she said that when she wrote about him afterwards, Marsden's face was the one she saw. So perhaps kpelish will take out the dvd - and the others - and enjoy this quality series.

I was trying to recall why in hell I had received a movie version of "Cover Her Face" - I returned it without opening the box. I wanted to READ the book not watch or listen and apparently SPL doesn't have a copy. Too bad. I am not successful as sitting long enough to listen to a book, nor am I a fan of watching one on TV so I guess I'll have to buy this from a used book store.

"Wrong" Adam Dagliesh; was expecting the smart and sexy Martin Shaw, who normally plays the role of Dagliesh. Don't know who this other English actor is. No ranking because I didn't watch the DVD once I realized cast.
