A naturalist who spent months at a time living on her own among wild creatures in remote jungles, author Montgomery was more comfortable with animals than with people. So she gladly opened her heart to a sick piglet, with no inkling that this piglet would not only survive but flourish--and she soon found herself engaged with her small-town community in ways she had never dreamed possible.

I read this story back in 2007 and it has stayed with me all these years. It's touching and lovely. If you adore animals then you will love it too.

Sy Montgomery is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This book chronicles her life with Christopher Hogwood, her 700+ pound pig. It made me laugh and cry! Great read for animal lovers!! I also recommend her book "The Soul of an Octopus".

I loved this book. It illustrates better than any other book I've read how much harm people do to themselves by not treating animals with respect and by not keeping them safe from us.

I didn't think I could love a pig more than Wilbur but Christopher Hogwood is a real charmer.

Just love this book! Happened upon it on the shelf and glad I did. We have a pot bellied pig so I could relate to the porcine attraction! I laughed, I cried. A beautiful story about life and family that is centered around this one lucky pig. Reminded me of what it was like growing up in a small town.

a wonderful story about a pig, full of humor and emotions.

This would be an excellent gift to give to animal-lovers. The true story is so compelling, and full of interesting twists. The only drawback is there are so many human names that it is hard to figure out who she is referring to at times, even though she uses the name. Aside from that, it is a brilliant piece of work.

The story of a pig and its experience with its caretakers, friends and fans. There are a few pictures, which are very helpful. We find out how people's lives have been hurt by the killing of pigs that they reared.
