This was Ed McBain's last book, and the last in the 87th Precinct series. (It was published posthumously.) McBain was considered the inventor of the police procedural. This was the first Ed McBain novel that I ever read, and I loved it! It was very entertaining with a number of interesting story lines and plot twists, and I kept turning the pages! The book reminded me of my favorite television show, "Hill Street Blues". Since McBain had nothing to do with that TV show, I can only assume that the 87th Precinct series influenced Steven Bochco in creating "Hill Street Blues". In any event, I am hooked and I intend to read the entire 87th Precinct series!
