Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, where bounty hunter Stephanie Plum's life is about to implode in Jane t Evanovich's wildest, hottest novel yet!

FIRST A STRANGER APPEARS
While chasing down the usual cast of miscreants and weirdos, Stephanie discovers that a crazed woman is stalking her.

THEN THE STRANGER REVEALS HER SECRETS
The woman dresses in black, carries a 9mm Glock, and has a bad attitude and a mysterious connection to dark and dangerous Carlos Manoso ...street name, Ranger.

NEXT, SOMEBODY DIES
The action turns deadly serious, and Stephanie goes from hunting skips to hunting a murderer.

SOON, THE CHASE IS ON
Ranger needs Stephanie for more reasons than he can say. And now, the two are working together to find a killer, rescue a missing child, and stop a lunatic from raising the body count. When Stephanie Plum and Ranger get too close for comfort, vice cop Joe Morelli (her on-again, off-again boyfriend) steps in. Will the ticking clock stop at the stroke of twelve...or will a stranger in the wind find a way to stop Stephanie Plum...forever? Filled with Janet Evanovich's trademark action, nonstopadventure, and sharp humor, Twelve Sharp shows why her novels have been called "hot stuff" ( The New York Times ), and Evanovich herself "the master" ( San Francisco Examiner ).

PLOT OR PREMISE:
Ranger's daughter is kidnapped and Stephanie wants to help. Of course, the arrival of Ranger's supposed wife puts a small crimp in their relationship. And a fake extra Ranger.

WHAT I LIKED:
The extra help around the office is fun, as is the interviewing of extra bounty hounters. And Ranger is acting very un-Ranger-like, very off balance which is interesting.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
The whole extra storyline with Lulu, Sweet, Grandma and a band was pretty extraneous

BOTTOM-LINE:
A little different from the norm, not a bad thing

Evanovich really ramps up the action and intrigue in this one by adding a fake Ranger, Ranger's wife (What???) and we get to meet his daughter, too. Stephanie continues to be torn between Morelli and Ranger and at one time they are both staying at her apartment. The supporting characters do not disappoint. Lulu decides to join Sally Sweet and his band. Her costume choices really add flavor to the book as do the descriptions of the would-be bounty hunters who come to apply when Connie posts a job opening. They made me laugh out loud.

It seems to me, a regular reader of Ms Plum's adventures that #12 falls far short. I am used to laughing out loud at the antics of G Mazur, Lula, and the other characters. In this one, Evanovich seems tired of the whole thing, and resorts to sleaze. I am so disappointed in #12. junk!

this is one of my favorites! i like the last one (11) too and 13 was great- but twelve is the best. The Rangeman just gets more and more mysterious.

I don't know what's better the mystery or dinner at the Plums.

Hilarious and serious at the same time. The crazy cast of characters were entertaining in themselves. I'll read more of her books. It would have had 4 star rating from me if she would have left out the nasty language. Everything reads better without it.

Not one of her better efforts. 6 of 10 for me.
